St. Gerald Family Formation is a partnership between the Church and parents. The goal is to encourage and equip parents to form their children as disciples of Jesus.

What does Family Formation look like at St. Gerald? (Children and parents K-8)
In the fall, the parish provides workbooks for children to start using at home with their parents. Parents and children (K-6) will attend formation together at the school in January. Formation evenings start with a meal. Children eat with their class and catechist while parents are at tables with other adults. Then, the children will receive catechesis in their classrooms while the parents experience formation and discussion with their tables.

Our fall parent meeting (K-6) will be Wednesday, September 6th at 6 pm, Lakeview - Gym, for parents to attend and receive their family’s materials for the fall.

We will have an optional prayer night for families with praise and worship led by Fr. Michael Voithofer on Wednesday, October 18th, from 6:30-7:30 pm, 96th and Q Street.

Any parents who have not attended Alpha are encouraged to attend the program in the fall. Please register at (www.stgerald.org/Alpha). The 7th and 8th grade parents are encouraged to join us for our parent formation course in the winter. Any parent who has a 2nd, 7th, or 8th grader will be required to attend a Sacrament Workshop Day for parents. More information to come.

What does FIRST RECONCILIATION and FIRST COMMUNION preparation look like?
Parents with 2nd grade children will be given materials that include activities and teachings they can facilitate at home with their family. Parents will receive the first box of resources at the parent meeting in September. Read more...

What about CONFIRMATION?
Confirmation preparation is a 2-year program beginning in 7th grade. We have moved from the classroom to a small group, conversational setting. Each grade will participate in a unique retreat experience.

7th graders begin the first semester with the Alpha Youth course. They dive into Scripture in the second semester using the Great Adventure Bible Study series for middle-schoolers called Encounter. 8th graders will use Dynamic Catholic’s Decision Point Confirmation series and meet in small groups with Confirmation mentors.
