Confirmation 2022-2023
Overview
This overview is for those young people who do not attend a Catholic school where confirmation preparation is part of the curriculum. Confirmation preparation is a two-year process, generally occurring during the 7th and 8th grade school years. Included in the process is instruction, service, fellowship, food, and worship. St. Gerald also believes that the parents of our young people must have an experience similar to what their children receive. Thus, there are parental requirements that are part of the child's preparation to receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
7th-8th Grade Requirements:
- Attend the Wednesday evening sessions (missing a session can be excused for illness only). Sessions begin promptly at 5:45 p.m. with dinner. Dinner is part of the confirmation preparation and is not optional. If you have food allergies, contact the church office and we will strive to accommodate you. If you prefer, you can bring your own food.
- Turn in all assignments on time (a one-week grace period for a late assignment is given once. All other assignments must be turned in on time).
Parent Requirements:
- Attend Alpha (two Alphas will be offered, one in the fall and one in the spring).
- Make sure that you do the parent interview with your child in a timely manner so that all of his or her assignments can be turned in on time.

If you are a parent of one of these students and you were unable to attend Alpha in the fall, another Alpha will be offered in the spring. Please check with the church office for details. Attending an Alpha is required if you want your child to be confirmed. If you have already attended Alpha, you need not attend it again but can simply let Deacon George know the place and dates where you attended. The ideal is that both parents attend Alpha. However, we understand that one adult may need to stay home with younger children. So, we only require that one parent attend Alpha. However, whoever begins Alpha must complete it. Parents cannot rotate between who attends Alpha and who stays home.
