Rosary for the Holy Souls in Purgatory
Join us on Tuesday, November 28th at 7pm in St. Gerald’s Church at 96th & Q to pray the Rosary for the Holy Souls in Purgatory. November is dedicated to the Holy Souls. In Purgatory, the souls of many of those who have died in God’s grace, undergo purification so that they may enter heaven.
Venerable Fulton Sheen once said this:
“As we enter heaven we will see them, so many of them coming towards us and thanking us. We will ask who they are, and they will say a poor soul you prayed for in purgatory.”

Welcoming new Youth Coordinator and Liturgical Music Leaders
One of the beauties of our Catholic tradition is that we embrace a variety of different styles of music and worship for a Church that has such a diversity of individuals, peoples and cultures. In an effort to bolster our youth program at St. Gerald and to give our youth the opportunity to get involved in our Sunday Liturgies, we will be introducing a more contemporary style of music and worship at our noon Mass on Sundays. To assist in this effort, we are also excited to introduce to you our new part-time youth coordinator, Kelly O'Donnell, who along with a team of parish volunteers will be implementing some new programs for our youth. Also, many thanks to our former youth coordinator, Dan Wees, for his wonderful work with our youth these past several months. Dan will still be a part of our volunteer youth team.
So, beginning on the first Sunday of Advent, and alternating from week to week, we will be introducing four new members to our noon choir who will be leading us in music and worship. Please give a warm welcome to our new youth coordinator and Liturgical music leaders.
My name is Kelly O'Donnell
. I was born and raised in Omaha, NE. As a youth I attended Christ the King Parish and have spent a majority of my adult years at St. Patrick's-Elkhorn. I was a Religious Formation catechist for over a decade and taught 2nd grade and Confirmation.
During my time at St. Patrick's, I had the privilege of serving the youth of our parish as an active volunteer for SPY (St. Patrick's Youth). I have also served on the Core Team at St. Stephen the Martyr and assisted with their Life Teen youth ministry.
God has blessed me with three amazing boys; Ryan (21), Collin (18) and Isaac (15). These young men have helped bring me closer to Christ and challenge me in new and exciting ways, every day.
I am passionate about my Catholic faith and I am excited to give the youth of St. Gerald's a new way to encounter Christ and grow in holiness.
Liturgical Music Leaders
and his wife, Tracy, have three children. They are new to St. Gerald's this year and excited to be here. Mark spent 10+ years working in youth ministry and other Catholic ministry settings. For the past few years he has been a stay-at-home dad and is now finding ways to be more active in the ministry of the Church again. Mark loves worshiping God through music and is looking forward to playing guitar and singing with you at Holy Mass!
is new to St. Gerald, but not to liturgical music. She began playing guitar for her third grade class's weekly mass and has participated in liturgical choirs and on worship teams ever since. Her greatest desire is to make Christ known and loved, and her favorite way to do that is through music. Erin is excited for the opportunity to minister to God's heart with our community through the 12 o'clock mass worship team. Erin is a wife of 25 years and a mother of five.
is a Pennsylvania native who moved to Nebraska when was just 8 years old. He went to high school at Mt. Michael Benedictine school where he discovered his vocation to be a music minister and continued to minister throughout his college career at Creighton where he graduated in May of 2016. Today he resides in Benson and his home parish is St. Vincent de Paul church in Omaha where he leads music for the 5pm Sunday mass.
has been participating in parish music ministry at various Omaha area parishes for over 30 years, including St. John's (Valley, NE), Mary Our Queen, and St. Philip Neri. She is also grateful to have had the opportunity to be a part of the worship team for many area prayer events in the area. She is the wife of Bob Becker and they have 10 children and 11 grandchildren. She looks forward to serving the parish community of St. Gerald's.

Why So Many Have Stopped Going to Church
"This is the story of four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody. There was an important job to be done and Everybody was asked to do it. Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was Everybody’s job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn’t do it. Consequently, it wound up that Nobody told Anybody, so Everybody blamed Somebody."

The scary truth about what’s hurting our kids
CNN recently interviewed Dr. Jean Twenge, author of iGen and her interview worried me – because I saw the truth that I would be facing in just a few short years. Dr. Twenge started doing research 25 years ago on generational differences, but when 2011 -2012 hit, she saw something that would scare her to the core. This is the year when those having iPhones went over the 50% mark.

100th Anniversary of Fatima Rosary Rally
St. Gerald hosted one of the 20,000 Rosary Rallies held across the country on Saturday, October 14. It was held from noon to 1 p.m. on the sidewalk at the corner of 96th and Q streets. The event celebrated the 100th anniversary of Our Lady’s apparitions at Fatima. Through the most Holy Rosary, we asked Our Lord through the Immaculate Heart of Mary for the conversion of America in order that it may fulfill its historic mission.

Clarification Regarding Ablaze
August 25, 2017
Dear St. Gerald Parishioners,
The Chancery of the Archdiocese of Omaha has received a number of communications from around the diocese, as well as from some of our parishioners, over the past few weeks regarding Ablaze Ministries (Ablaze) and their fund-raising activities. As pastor of St. Gerald, and in hope of bringing some clarification, I would like to address these concerns.
First of all, however, I would like to thank Fr. Michael and Ablaze for bringing such a beautiful apostolate to St. Gerald, and for providing us and others outside our parish the wonderful opportunity to adore and worship our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament.
Below are some expressed concerns I would like to address:
- The parish has no financial support for Ablaze.
- Any money (i.e., Sunday collections, etc.) given to St. Gerald's does not go to Ablaze.
- St. Gerald's and Ablaze are distinct corporations with no financial connection.
- St. Gerald did NOT purchase the property recently acquired by Ablaze.
- Ablaze is not doing any fundraising campaigns at St. Gerald. Any free-will offerings given at Ablaze events goes strictly to offset their operating expenses and to support their ministries.
- No parish resources are being used for Ablaze promotions or operations, save the renting of space.
- Ablaze is directed by an independent board.
- Ablaze is not an apostolate of St. Gerald's or of the Archdiocese of Omaha, but is work of Catholic laypersons similar to that of Holy Family Shrine or Cloisters on the Platte.
- Fr. Michael's assignment is as associate pastor of St. Gerald's and he dedicates his free time and musical talents to provide his services to the church through Ablaze.
On behalf of Ablaze, Fr. Michael and myself, my apologies if this has caused any confusion regarding Ablaze and their ministry. Please feel free to contact me or Fr. Michael at the parish office if you have any further questions or concerns regarding this matter.
Fr. Mark Nolte

Prayer for Family Formation
Prayer for Family Formation in Every Part of Our Parish
Dear Lord, you have always been faithful to us and have always guided our parish to know, love and serve you. You call us to be Disciples who actively share their faith with others. Strengthen the gifts of the Holy Spirit in each of us as we seek to help our families become the primary place of religious formation. We give you thanks for the fruit that has come from Family Formation. Bless all our efforts this coming year especially as we move the Family Formation model into our school and as we begin YDisciple among our youth. Encourage us as we move in this new direction and keep our hearts tuned to your will. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
