New Sunday Mass Times Starting Sunday, Nov. 27th!
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ (Eph. 1:2). We are living in a world and in a Church that is rapidly changing right before our eyes. And with change comes challenges. One of the challenges we, as the Church, are currently facing is the substantial decrease in Mass attendance on the weekends. This unfortunate reality is not only in Omaha and in Nebraska, but world-wide. In the U.S., only 22% of Catholics attend Mass on Sundays on a regular basis. At St. Gerald, although we continue to bring in new parishioners on a regular basis, our average Mass attendance on the weekends has gone from 1,616 in 2018 to 1,003 in 2022. As many of you have probably noticed, we have a lot of empty pews at our Saturday evening and Sunday Masses. Weekend Masses are not as well attended as they were years ago.
After consulting with our Servant Leadership Team (SLT), our Liturgy Committee, as well as other parishioners, and with a lot of thought and prayer, I have decided to reduce the number of Masses we are offering on Sunday. Beginning Sunday, November 27 (First Sunday of Advent), the 7:00am Lakeview Mass will be eliminated and our new Mass times for Sunday will be 7:30am, 9:30am, and 11:30am. THESE MASSES WILL ALL BE HELD AT 96 & Q. The 5:00pm Mass on Saturday will remain as scheduled. For now, the early Mass (7:30am) will continue to be a Low Mass (without a choir). Since we are losing one of our early Masses (8:00am), we will need more room that the Lakeview Chapel is not able to provide. This is one of the main reasons for moving the early Mass from Lakeview Chapel to the main church. Having all our Sunday Masses at the main church will also be a greater sign of unity as a parish community. Part of the archbishop's vision for our archdiocese is that we be "One Church".
As with any change, especially Mass changes, I realize that not everyone will be pleased. However, given the current attendance at our weekend Masses change was necessary. Thank you for your understanding and for your continued love and support for St. Gerald. I know these past several years, especially with COVID, have not been easy on any of us. Yet, God continues to be faithful to us in providing us all the grace and strength to weather these storms.
I also want to take this opportunity to reach out to those of you who are not attending Mass on the weekends on a weekly basis. Jesus is calling you to come home to Him and to the Sacraments, especially to the Holy Eucharist and to Confession. He loves you so much, and He has proven His love for you and for me by suffering and dying on the cross for your sins and mine. It is breaking His heart and the heart of our heavenly Father that so many of His children are rejecting Him. Please, for the love of our Lord, repent and come home to your Father and mine. He awaits you, as we do, with open arms and He longs to receive you in His loving and merciful embrace.
Sincerely in Christ,

Please join us for a Seeking Truth Bible Study at St. Gerald's starting on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 to study the Gospel of John.

Journey of Faith
Our commitment to the Journey of Faith as a Family of Parishes continues. Our combined committee of representatives from St. Columbkille and St. Gerald have been meeting and discussing our path forward together as a community of faith. Recently each parish group took time to reflect and assess the strengths of the parish as well as areas in need of improvement. The teams used an assessment tool provided by the Archdiocese that directed each parish team to look at liturgy, leadership, path to discipleship, culture of generosity, adult formation, religious education, the Catholic school, sacramental preparation, finance and facilities. Once each individual parish team had time to reflect, both teams came together to share their findings. Knowing where each parish stands, we can then move forward and discuss ways that we may be able to support each other while we build each of our parishes into more flourishing and missional faith communities.
Understanding that this Journey of Faith process is intended to span the next 10 years, the framework and ideas that come from the Family of Parishes relationship will be things that can grow and transform as time progresses. An immediate area that is being discussed is creating an invitational spirit and promoting faith events within each parish. Recently an invitation was extended to the teens of St. Gerald to join St. Columbkille's teen faith program. Likewise, an invitation from St. Gerald was extended to the women of St. Columbkille to attend their "Women of Grace" Bible study. While these are small beginning steps, it is the hope that continued cooperation and collaboration will help lead our two parishes into a closer relationship as we work together to strengthen the faith of the members in each of our communities.

Archbishop George J. Lucas Statement on Dobbs...
The Supreme Court's decision in the Dobbs case is a major victory for unborn children, for their mothers and for the cause of justice in our country. Citizens and their elected representatives in each state will now have the opportunity to guarantee the right to life for the child in the womb.
Many in our country will not agree with the reasoning and the decision of the Supreme Court. And some women will still wonder how they can meet the challenge of an unplanned or unwanted pregnancy. This is a moment for each of us to commit to not let any woman face her challenge alone. In the Catholic community, we possess many resources that are well suited to support moms and their children. Mothers and children contribute gifts to our communities that we want to cherish.
Parish Directory Update
Thank you to all the parishioners who have picked up their parish directories. We still have over 100 families that need to pick up their directory. You can pick up your directory at the business office Monday - Friday during business hours. There is a very limited quantity of directories available for purchase at $10 each.
St. Gerald Parish Strategic Plan
The Pastoral Council spent the past five years researching, engaging with the Archdiocese and the Parish at-large, and formulating the St. Gerald Parish Strategic Plan. It is our hope that this Plan will help guide each Ministry, Group, and Parishioner on how to use their gifts to fulfill the Mission and Vision of St. Gerald's.

Everyone in the parish was invited to a presentation of this plan on May 5, 2022. If you missed it, you can view the video presentation of the strategic plan

Pray For Priestly Vocations
This year, unfortunately, we had no young men ordained to the priesthood for the archdiocese of Omaha. Please pray that more young men will hear and respond to God's call to the priesthood.
PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS (by Pope St. John Paul II)
Jesus, our Good Shepherd, bless all our parishes with numerous priests, deacons, men and women in religious life, consecrated laity and missionaries, according to the needs of the entire world, which you love and wish to save. Assist our pastors and all who live a consecrated life. Guide the steps of those who have responded generously to your call and are preparing to receive Holy Orders or to profess vows. Look with love on young people and call them to follow you. Help them to understand that in you alone can they attain complete fulfillment. To this end we call on the powerful intercession of Mary, Mother and model of all vocations. We beseech you to sustain our faith that the Father will grant what you command us to ask. Amen.
Would you pray about committing to 1 hour of Adoration weekly, between Wednesdays at 8 AM and Thursdays at 11:59 PM? You can go to the link below if you'd like to commit to a weekly hour of prayer before Jesus in the Eucharist.
SIGN UP FOR ADORATION
We will notify you when we have all the hours filled and are able to begin exposition for these times on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
Although our Eucharistic Lord is not always exposed in the monstrance, He is in the tabernacle 24/7. You are always welcome to come pray in the chapel at 96th and Q. To find out how to get the code for the chapel doors (west doors), please contact the parish office at 402-331-1955.

Prayer for Family Formation
Prayer for Family Formation in Every Part of Our Parish
Dear Lord, you have always been faithful to us and have always guided our parish to know, love and serve you. You call us to be Disciples who actively share their faith with others. Strengthen the gifts of the Holy Spirit in each of us as we seek to help our families become the primary place of religious formation. We give you thanks for the fruit that has come from Family Formation. Bless all our efforts this coming year especially as we move the Family Formation model into our school and as we begin YDisciple among our youth. Encourage us as we move in this new direction and keep our hearts tuned to your will. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
