Confirmation Information
The St. Gerald Confirmation program is a 2-year program. Anyone who is entering the program for the fist time must enter Level One.
When registering for Level I classes you must include a copy of the candidate's Baptismal certificate, unless it is already on file in the business office or if the Baptism was at St. Gerald Church. If the Baptism was at St. Gerald, then the Baptismal date should be included on the registration form. The candidate's Confirmation sponsor must also be listed on the registration form for Level I. A Confirmation sponsor must be at least 16 years of age and be a Confirmed and practicing Catholic. Parents are not allowed to be sponsors. All of this information must be included on the registration form for Level I or the registration will not be processed.
Confirmation preparation consists of classroom and home learning experiences, a retreat, and Christian service work. There will be an orientation meeting for Level I parents in the Fall to answer your questions.
When registering for Level II classes the candidate's Confirmation name must be listed. It can be the same as the candidate's baptismal name, or another saint that would be a good role model. A report will be written on that saint in the Fall of Level II. The summer is a great time to read about the saints if you have not already decided what your Confirmation name will be. Only those students who have completed all of the Level I requirements will be allowed to enter Level II. These requirements include half of all service hours, half of the Faith Mastery page, completion of the assigned sponsor meetings and a passing grade on the final exam. If you are short of any requirements, they must be completed and turned in to the business office by Sept. 1st.
And please mark your calendars. This year's mandatory Level II retreat will be on September 25th, 2011.
Also, please note that Confirmation Community Building hours can be earned by attending the Totus Tuus program this summer. Registration information is on line and in the parish business office.
